Van dwelling and traveling have grown in the past several decades. As it continues to grow, the van industry is starting to see developments leaning more toward van travel or long-term van living. Tiny home producers are now offering build-outs for vans as well. One industry you may forget about in your search for the ideal long-term van for travel is roadside assistance. Here are some reasons why you need roadside assistance as a van traveler and how it can help you long-term.

Emergency Fuel

There may be times when you have a gas issue. This may be due to a mileage error or may be due to a closed gas station. For example, you may have a gas station in mind that was there during your last trip. Once you arrive, and your gas is already empty, you find out the gas station closed during the last few months or last year. If you are in a rural area this can be a severe issue. Instead, you can contact roadside assistance and they will bring emergency fuel to you, usually between one and five gallons.

Emergency Tire Service

You may be prepared for most of your roadside issues. You may even have a backup tire or spare in case of a flat. The problem is when it is not just one flat. For example, you can be driving and hit something that takes out two of your tires instead of one. That means you have a spare, but will still need another tire. Your roadside assistance can arrive and help with tire changes and possibly quick tire repair that will allow you to get to a tire station for a fully repaired or new tire.

Emergency Medical Assistance

There are now roadside assistance plans that offer emergency medical assistance. This is for roadside issues you may have during your travels. For example, if you are living in your van full time, you may have an issue during the night. This issue could be anything from breathing issues to a heart attack or stroke that makes it impossible for you to drive to a hospital. You can call your roadside assistance for emergency medical assistance to your location.

Roadside assistance is offered by most car insurance companies. However, you may also be able to get secondary roadside assistance coverage from your cell phone company. Make sure your roadside assistance is clear on mileage, how much certain items are, and what type of services are included besides the ones listed here.
